Kosher Food & Dining
Can I bring kosher food, meat, poultry, or fish with me to Kauai?
Yes! Many visitors bring kosher food with them from the Mainland, particularly meat, poultry, and other specialty products that may be difficult to find locally.
Since Hawaii has specific agricultural regulations to protect the islands' unique ecosystem, we recommend checking current airline, TSA, and Hawaii Department of Agriculture requirements before traveling, especially for fresh produce, plants, and certain animal products. Be sure to package perishable foods appropriately for your journey.
Generally permitted:
-
Meat and poultry: Frozen or refrigerated meat and poultry originating in the United States are generally permitted.
-
Fish: Commercially packaged fresh, refrigerated, or frozen fish is generally permitted, subject to applicable airline and agricultural requirements.
-
Packaged foods: Commercially packaged snacks, crackers, pasta, cereals, canned goods, and other processed foods are generally allowed.
-
Prepared foods: Cooked, baked, and frozen foods are generally permitted when arriving from within the United States.
Restricted or requiring inspection:
-
Fresh fruits and vegetables: Contrary to a common misconception, not all fresh produce is prohibited. Many fruits and vegetables are permitted after agricultural inspection, but certain items are restricted.
-
Certain produce: Pineapples, passion fruit, corn on the cob, radishes, turnips, and certain other agricultural products require special authorization or treatment and should not be brought without checking the regulations first.
-
Plants, seeds, and other agricultural materials: These may be restricted or require inspection, permits, or special treatment.
All agricultural items must be declared upon arrival and presented for inspection when required. Commercially manufactured food products generally do not require agricultural declaration or inspection.
We recommend bringing kosher meat, poultry, and specialty packaged products from the Mainland while purchasing fresh produce locally to simplify your travel preparations.
For the most up-to-date information, please review the Hawaii Department of Agriculture's official guidelines for travelers arriving from the Mainland before your trip.

Exploring Kauai & Travel Tips
Is renting a car recommended on Kauai?
Yes, we highly recommend renting a car! Kauai is a beautiful island with so much to explore, but attractions, beaches, accommodations, and shopping areas are spread out. While taxis, rideshares, and public buses are available, those transportation options are limited, particularly in more remote areas.
Having your own vehicle will give you the most flexibility to explore the island at your own pace. We recommend reserving your rental car in advance, especially during busy travel seasons.
What is the weather like on Kauai, and when is the best time to visit?
One of the wonderful things about Kauai is that it's beautiful year-round! Temperatures are generally warm and comfortable, although rainfall and weather conditions vary significantly across the island.
The North Shore is known for its lush greenery and frequent rain, while the South and West Shores tend to be sunnier and drier. Summer generally brings drier weather, while winter is typically wetter, particularly in the north.
Spring and fall can be especially lovely times to visit, with pleasant weather and often fewer crowds.
Which part of Kauai is best to stay in?
That depends on the kind of vacation you're looking for - each area has its own unique charm! Visit our Hotels and Rentals page for more information.
Still Have Questions?
We're happy to help however we can! Whether you're planning your first trip to Kauai or returning to our beautiful island, we look forward to connecting with you.
